VACATION AT MAUI, HAWAII

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Picture_2

Hawaii is a paradise and one of the greatest islands in the world. We are planning on having a vacation in Hawaii someday specifically in the island of Maui, the second largest of the Hawaiian Islands, and enjoy the beautiful sunsets, the tropical climate, beautiful waterfalls, beaches and resorts. We also want to learn about its culture and native Hawaiian traditions, try different cuisines, enjoy several recreational activities and do some sight seeing.

A friend of ours who is a resident of Hawaii suggested a Maui Resort which was voted as one of the world's "Best Places to Stay" and "Number 1 Best Value Hotel in Hawaii" according to Travel & Leisure Magazine. As a matter of fact our friend and her fiance are planning to have a dream wedding in Maui and are currently researching about Maui Weddings in preparation for their very special day.The Ka'anapali Resort located on the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui offers a comfortable place to stay with first class amenities and facilities. They offer 432 guest rooms surrounded by tropical gardens. The rooms have spacious balconies and comfortable beds either in king size with a twin day bed, or two double beds. High speed internet, cable TV, a clock radio, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron and ironing board are also provided. Guests can enjoy swimming in a whale-shaped swimming pool or stay in a comfortable courtyard while enjoying the breeze under the shade. They also have a spa salon and guests can try different cuisines in their restaurants. They also offer guests with different fun ocean activities, breathtaking sights, relaxing beaches, golf courses, world-class shopping and a lot more.

Planning a trip to Maui and enjoying fun experiences is what I am looking for. I would like to enjoy plenty of activities and recreation in Maui like swimming, snorkeling, golfing, shopping, hiking, biking, horseback riding, luau, helicopter rides, sailing cruises, whale watching and sight seeing. ATV rides, zip line rides, deep sea fishing, para sailing, surfing and deep sea dives are also fun and thrilling experiences that I would love to try. Other Hawaiian activities such as ukulele lessons, poi making demonstration, hula, lei making, cultural garden tour, lau printing, lauhala weaving, pineapple cutting demonstrations and several others are fun experiences as well. Hawaii is definitely a paradise and a great place for a vacation.

MEMORIAL DAY CELEBRATION

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

We had a simple picnic during the Memorial Day celebration with my in-laws and I enjoyed making some American dishes which my mother-in-law taught me to prepare. They're just simple dishes like deviled eggs and bean salad. We also baked some chocolate cookies while my father-in-law prepared smoked pork. Corn on the cob, chips with french onion dip and bread buns are served as well on the picnic table.
I want to share with you a simple preparation of deviled egg which my mother-in-law taught me. Hard boiled eggs are used for this kind of dish. Peel the eggs and slice it lengthwise. Remove the yolks and leave the two egg white halves. Mash the yolks and mix it with ingredients like mayonnaise, mustard, cider vinegar and salt to taste. Scoop the yolk mixture with a spoon and put it in each egg cup. Sprinkle paprika on top as a garnish and refrigerate. That's it! It is commonly served for picnics or holidays. It is called deviled egg because centuries ago, it came to be used most often with spicy food.
Bean salad which was taught to me by my mother-in-law is very easy to prepare as well. Just mix red beans with mayonnaise, pickle relish, and a little salt.

By the way, Memorial Day is celebrated every last Monday of May every year. It is a federal holiday in the United States in commemoration of American soldiers who have given their lives in war.

FIRST PIZZA THAT HE MADE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

My husband is a pizza lover. He said that he can live with just a pizza, fried chicken and macaroni. It doesn't sound healthy to me but it is usual to him I guess, although the energy content and nutritional value of pizza varies from its ingredients and serving size. That is why I really tried to learn how to cook some Filipino dishes because during the first 2 months of my stay here in the US, we usually eat pizza aside from the food we just bought for take out in a restaurant or fast food. Aside from that I miss Filipino dishes that my parents cook back home.

Anyway, I wanted to share with you the first pizza that he made. It is a pepperoni flavored pizza with some meat and mushroom toppings on it. It tastes and looks good! So I told him "But when the pizza is served and eaten moderately without high fat toppings such as pepperoni or cheese, pizza can be relatively healthy". hehe!^_^

INFRARED SAUNAS

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

It's been a long time since I detoxified myself in a sauna. The last time was about a year ago when I treated my mom to a sauna bath and spa since she is so stressed from her work and she deserves to feel relaxed and refreshed.

As I was looking online about saunas, I found information about infrared saunas. It interests me a lot since it uses an infrared heater that gives radiant heat. It doesn't emit ultraviolet rays the same as the sun which is harmful to our skin so it is healthy and safe to use and won't cause the skin to burn. Aside from that, infrared saunas have several health benefits. It can detoxify the body once you sweat which can stimulate the body to release fat-soluble toxins, heavy metals and other toxic chemicals. An infrared sauna also assists in weight loss since it can burn calories, and fat can be released along with the sweat and toxins in the body. You can also see some improvements like reduction in fatigue and you can feel the relief if you have arthritis, muscular pains, tension or stiffness, and spasms. Infrared saunas can cleanse and rejuvenate the skin. They open clogged pores and the dirt, oil and makeup will be removed. This is very good to the skin and most women like it to keep their skin beautiful. By using it regularly, it can help maintain and condition our cardiovascular system as well as to make the blood pressure in level.

I've known a few people who own infrared saunas and they claim that they have good and healthful effects on their body. There are several infrared saunas that may be used both indoor and outdoor that can be bought online with different models and designs to choose from. Plus, they offer free handling and shipping to their valued customers within the continental USA.

I MISS FRESH CRAB!

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I can't see any fresh crabs in the grocery stores here in our place. I miss the fresh crabs that my parents cook for us back home especially the dish "ginataang alimasag". I remember when my parents bought crabs in the market, the crabs were still fresh and alive before cooking.

When we went to Schnucks a few weeks ago I saw a crab and we bought some. It's a crab meat with some spices in it stuffed in the crab shell but it's good though.

Do you see two turtles swimming in the pond? I took this picture a few days ago at our backyard. I am fond of looking at the pond because aside from ducks, there are turtles (they are not snapper turtles) and fish swimming in it.

Whenever I see those turtles I remember the fun times I had 2 years ago together with my family and husband at Avilon Zoo where my nephew is so scared to touch the tortoise hehe.

We asked our nephew to touch the tortoise so we could take pictures together with it but he was afraid of it.hehe

SAVING MONEY AT ITEYA.COM

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I just had a short talk with one of my friends last night because she was in a hurry printing some online coupons and will do some grocery shopping. She mentioned that she is a member of Iteya.com and she saves money while shopping. In my curiosity I visited the site to see what's in it.

At Iteya, customers can save money through coupons, specials, sales and clearances with the list of their hundreds of online stores such as Walmart, Office Depot, iTunes and a lot more. You can even printout coupons on their site and use them when you buy some groceries. That's a smart way to save money! Plus you can be rewarded with Amazon.com and Zazzle.com gift certificates if you earn Iteya points from shopping at their accredited stores online and when you sign up and refer some friends. Aside from that they have cool applications online where you can share videos, photos and which allow you to socialize with your friends. They also have Zazzle panel application where you can create an online shop for t-shirts, bags, tumbler and other items with your own designs on them and make some money at zero cost and zero investment. You can display the Zazzle Panel at your Iteya page to begin selling and enjoy getting paid through the product that you sold. You can also add items that you are hoping for on the wish list application.

Iteya is an awesome site where you can save money and do social networking with your friends at the same time!

THE ALAMO

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

We went to the Alamo last week which is a shrine where an old Spanish Mission is still preserved by the Daughters of the Texas Republic. We learned about its history and were able to stroll around the place (which is somewhat like a fort or park ambiance), take some pictures of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas Library, and enter a museum and gift shop with Alamo Archaeology and the evolution of the Bowie Knife exhibit (Unfortunately, photography is not allowed inside the museum and gift shop). We also bought a coffee mug, tumbler and a belt buckle as souvenirs.

(click photo to enlarge)
I just want to share with you a brief history of Alamo.
Americans from all over the country came together at the Alamo(Spanish Mission) and they bravely defend it from the Mexican army under Gen Sta. Ana against overwhelming odds and they did not retreat. The defenders of the Alamo were able to repel to attracts by the Mexican army but were overrun on the third attack.

Although the Texan defenders of the Alamo had little chance of survival, and most gave their lives in its defense, their bravery served to inspire fellow Texans to repel Mexican President Santa Anna's forces and subsequently win the Texas Revolution.

SAVING MONEY ONLINE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

A friend of mine who usually does online shopping shared with me some ideas on how she saves, and earns, some money while shopping. It really sounds interesting to me because every time she spends money, a percentage of the amount spent was returned back to her as cash back rebates.

I checked out the site Extrabux.com to see how it works to save money and how helpful it is to online shoppers. No money will be charged for the membership and all that is needed is just an email address to begin with. The process of joining is so simple and absolutely free! Once you become a member you can browse and choose among the list of hundreds of online accredited stores in their site which offer great online shopping deals. You can even save more by doing comparison shopping as well. By purchasing online you will get cash back from the money that you spent and it can be deposited directly to your PayPal account, or, if you prefer to receive it via mail, you can provide them your mailing address. Aside from that, they also provide valuable and free discount coupons, promo codes and other online offers which will definitely save more money. What huge savings! Isn't it?

I will give it a try and spread to my friends about their great offer.

CRUISIN AT RIO DE SAN ANTONIO

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Here are some photos of the historical places that we took in San Antonio, Texas:
(click photo to enlarge)
The River Tour experience we had last week that took us about 35-40 minutes at Rio San Antonio, Texas was very enjoyable. The driver of the cruise who was very entertaining gave rich information of the history of Texas while touring us at San Antonio River and at one of the most popular tourist attractions in the South-River Walk (Paseo del Rio). There were a lot of cultural scenes, historical and interesting places (even the places where some famous movies were filmed), buildings, hotels, wonderful restaurants (overlooking the river), towering trees and unique looking birds. San Antonio has the largest and oldest Spanish Colonial water system in what is now the U.S.

Rio San Antonio Cruise also offers dining or cocktails in the boat catered by River Walk restaurants. They also provide Chartered or private tours with seats for up to 40 people and you may request for a reservation for it.

CAR INSURANCE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Most of us living here in the United States own an automobile and one of the most important things to have when driving in a public highway is car insurance. We should all be concerned about the advantages of car insurance and how it can help you in case of an accident but we shouldn't also forget to pay attention to the safety guidelines as well.

There are hundreds if not thousands of car insurance companies that we could find on the internet which offer great deals. The cost is one of the factors that we are looking for in a car insurance company. But it is quite time consuming searching for them and reading all the information about the policies on each site, compare prices and answer all of their queries.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could fill out a form just once and the insurance companies will be the ones to come to us? I just recently found an interesting site that offers this kind of service, the American Car Quotes. They send the information that the customer provides to insurance companies that match customer's needs. In that way, the customers will not take most of their time reading policies, filling out a lot of forms and they will not feel upset when rejected after spending a lot of time with such companies. It makes the customers experience hassle and worry free. Doesn't it?

OUR VISIT TO RIVERCENTER MALL , SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Can you see Meryl standing there? My fellow blogger LittleMissfly requested me to post some pictures of Texas and I am willing to share it with her and to all the readers of this blog.

One of the places we went to in Texas is the Rivercenter Mall in San Antonio. It is a good shopping mall to go to. The mall is set right on the River Walk which is one of the top entertainment destinations in Texas and is attached to the Marriott River Center Hotel. We strolled around the mall and prefer to have our lunch before riding the Rio San Antonio Cruise that will took about 35 to 40 minutes cruising wherein the driver will show and give information about the old age places including historical buildings, restaurants and other interesting places around San Antonio, Texas. We decided to have Thai food for lunch since we will be having Chinese food for dinner. We enjoyed eating Thai rice, sweet and sour pork, chicken barbecue pieces, crab rangoon(tastes sweet unlike the Chinese version), eggrolls which are very tasty and filling plus we enjoyed the view of the Riverwalk while eating. After our lunch we ride the cruise. I will share with you some information and some of the pictures we took while riding the Rio De San Antonio Cruise in my next post.

At Rivercenter Mall in San Antonio, Texas, you can enjoy dining, shopping for clothes, accessories and jewelries, shoes, health and beauty products and other gift items. You can also find a lot of specialty retail store, baggage and handbags store, books, card as well as home, music and electronic devices. Concerts are also held at the Rivercenter Lagoon at a specified day and time. You may also enjoy watching movies in IMAX Theater.

ARTIFICIAL TREES

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Wouldn't it be nice if you have an artificial tree displayed inside your house or in your yard? Aside from the fact that it doesn't wither or die, you don't have to worry about watering them especially when you are out of town for a very long vacation. Aside from that, artificial trees are a lot easier to maintain, no need for you to fertilize it, water it and it even doesn't need sunlight at all. Real trees need to be cut down or have some trimming, but artificial trees don't need it as it just stay in its size. It really saves your time, doesn't it?

I am looking for artificial trees online that will match the ambiance of our house. I already found one site that offers artificial trees that I am looking for and I am choosing among their good looking artificial silk trees. They are all nice and I will have no problem with the insects or bugs that might colonize the tree since it is artificial. I can even plant them everywhere outside the house and I have no worries about the changing climate or season each year.

I also love the Silk Areca Palm Trees which are perfect for in-house decoration and a good gift idea too. The height of the tree ranges from 2 to 12 feet.

Artificial trees are good. You can even bring it whenever you move out of your house. I also like it for the fact that it just stay the same and all I need is to clean it once in a while.

A VERY LONG DRIVE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

(click photo to zoom)
It was really a tiring and long drive from our home to Texas (May 9) but we were glad that the tornado was over. While on the way, the big water tower in our area with a smiley face caught my attention again(every time we pass by this big water tower, it makes me smile because it's pretty cool) as if the big smiley face is saying "Smile because you are still alive."hehe. We finally left our place passing by a bridge in Missouri, overlooking the Mississippi River. While passing by the state of Missouri, (another state where some of its places were also affected by the tornado)broken trees and only few leaves hanging on the branches were noticeable. We also stopped by the said state to eat our lunch and buy some other things. At Arkansas, we pulled over to rest, stretch and have some snacks. We drove again and finally we arrived at our hotel destination in Texarkana, Texas to have our dinner, rest, sleep and be ready for a 6 hour trip going to the house of my sister-in-law the next day. We prayed and thanked God that we were safe and we can still enjoy eating foods for our dinner. We had a very good meal. Pretty big serving of shrimp, burger, fries, muffins which are very filling and delicious. Then we watched television for a while, checked my blog and had a good sleep. The next day we had the usual American breakfast-bacon, egg, toast and pancake which tasted really good. We regained our strength and time again for another long drive. At last we arrived at the house of my sister-in-law in Texas and saw my cute nephew!(click photo to zoom)
