WAIVER WIRE SEASON PASS

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I have mentioned with you in my previous post that my husband is an avid football fan. His favorite NFL team is the Arizona Cardinals and his favorite player is Kurt Warner. Since he is an avid football fan, of course I learned how the game is going from watching it with him. I actually watched the Superbowl last year together with him and my in-laws and we had fun watching it. Anyway, have you ever heard about WaiverWire? I have found this site very interesting! It is an incredible website for fantasy football players that I also introduced to my husband a few days ago. WaiverWire provides the best and most advanced fantasy sports tools and information available. I just signed up for it for FREE! Yes! You read it right! It's FREE! Below is the screen shot of my profile page.

One of the things that I like about this site is that its networking forum has a customizable profile which is great since I can connect with my friends and family and bond together online through fantasy sports. I already encoded some information in my profile as you can see in my screenshot but I am still updating it and will find and invite more friends. I also started using the draft center, created my fantasy team and I named my league, Red League. Red because it's the color of the Cardinals. I am gonna put Kurt Warner in QB position later and I will continue to update and use this interesting site later. By the way, the Fantasy Stimulus Package where I signed in cost $19.99 before but now I availed it for free which is so cool. I don't need to spend even a penny in availing the package! The Fantasy Stimulus Package includes NFL Fantasy Football player rankings, Waiver Wire cheat sheets, Live NFL game day stats, Red zone stats, Receiver targets, Live game day stat leaders, Customized scoring based on your point system, the ability to upload your fantasy team(s) and a lot more. I enjoyed this site since it has everything a football fan needs to win his fantasy league including Fantasy football draft software, football news, football analysis, football forum, football research, access to over 100 Local NFL team news feeds, football rankings, player comparisons and more. This package gives information regarding fantasy league players so one will know how your players are doing even if you miss watching the game. As of now, I don't have team predictions yet but I hope that the Arizona Cardinals will win! I will keep my fingers crossed.

Check out Waiver Wire now! Join me and sign up for free! See you there!

TINOLANG MANOK/ CHICKEN TINOLA (CHICKEN GINGER SOUP) RECIPE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

This chicken soup recipe is one of the most famous dishes in the Philippines and one of my favorites. It's hard for me to find sili leaves or malunggay leaves in the International grocery store so I just substituted spinach leaves for those which is actually good.

INGREDIENTS:
1 kilo chicken, cut in serving pieces
2 cups papaya, quartered (or 2 sayote "chayote" or potatoes)

1 onion, diced
1/2 head garlic, minced
1 tablespoon ginger root, cut into strips

2 tablespoon fish sauce (patis)
4-5 cups of water
1 cup sili leaves (or malunggay or spinach leaves) I used spinach leaves since it's the one available in the International grocery store near us
Salt to taste
3 tablespoons oil
Directions:

In a sauce pan, heat oil. Saute garlic and ginger until you can smell the aroma of ginger. Then add in onions. Continue to saute until onions become translucent. Add the chicken. Cook for about 5 minutes until the chicken turns white. Pour in the fish sauce. Add the water and bring to a boil. Lower the heat and let it simmer. Add the papaya or sayote or potatoes. Continue simmering until chicken and vegetables are tender. Add salt according to your taste. Then add sili leaves or malunggay or spinach. Cover with lid and let it simmer for a minute or until the leaves are cooked. Serve hot. Best with rice.

BENEFITS OF EXERCISE / WEEKEND HIKING

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Last weekend my husband and I went hiking in one of the trails at Giant City Park to have some exercise. We just chose the one hour hiking trail. Although it is not as challenging as Little Grand Canyon, we were still able to enjoy it.
Here are some of our pictures. Scroll down please.

After hiking, I enjoyed a few moments on the swing and in the playground for kids.

Why exercise is good for you?

-for enjoyment
-reduce surgical risk
-to strengthen muscles
-improves mental health
-boost the immune system
-maintain healthy bone density
-strengthen cardiovascular system
-helps prevent depression and insomia
-weight loss and maintain good figure
-to maintain physical fitness and health
-helps prevent disease such as heart disease, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetis and obesity,
-reduces levels of cortisol(stress hormone that builds fat in the abdominal region, making weight loss difficult)

How about you? what form of exercise do you do? stretching? cycling? swimming? walking? rowing? running? playing tennis?
or exercise your mouth through eating food most of your day? I do that too! L.O.L! That is why I need some physical exercise ^_^

SARCIADONG ISDA/SARCIADONG GALUNGGONG (FISH SAUTE) RECIPE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I miss a lot of Filipino foods and I love it when we go to the International grocery store near us to buy some Filipino food and stuff. Last week I bought some galunggong! I am thinking of just frying it and accompanying it with some sauce or just slice some tomatoes to complement it but then I ended up cooking a very easy to cook dish called sarciadong isda. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
1 big tomato (or 2 small tomatoes)

1 medium sized onion

2 cloves of garlic

1 egg, beaten

1 tbsp vegetable oil (or any cooking oil )

1 cup water
fish sauce or salt to taste

FISH FOR FRYING:
Ingredients:
5 pcs galunggong, gutted (or any fish available will do)

cornstarch
1 egg, beaten

salt
Directions:

Put the fish on a dish then pour enough beaten egg to cover the fish. Sprinkle some salt on each fish. In a separate dish, put some cornstarch. Roll the fish in the cornstarch until the whole fish is covered.

In a pan, heat oil. Oil should be enough to submerge half of the fish. Fry the fish on one side and when golden brown flip on the other side until done. Set aside.

In a wok, heat oil. Sauté garlic and onion. Add tomato and sauté for a minute or two. Add water. Bring to a boil. When boiling, add the beaten egg. Stir so that it will not get a big lump. Fish sauce to taste. Add the fried fish. Boil for about 3 minutes. Serve with steamed rice.

truTV. NOT REALITY. ACTUALITY

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I love watching truTV shows like Most Daring, Speeders, Operation Repo, World's Wildest Vacation Videos, The Smoking Gun Presents and more. Imagine I can stop facing my laptop whenever I turn on the television and start watching truTv programs although I'm addicted to the internet! Yeah! Because truTV programs are so amazing! Every time I watch truTV programs I cannot help but have a physical reaction. Just like when I was watching the "Most Daring" program on truTV, there's this video where cars were slipping on the pavement at an alarming rate and the last victim was an 18 wheeler truck that slams into a reporter's SUV, and the SUV explodes. I can't help but shouted "Oh no! Oh no!" while my husband that time was in the kitchen eating some snacks he taught that I addressed "Oh no!" to him! That was pretty funny because he thought I wanted him to stop eating because it will ruin his diet! L.O.L! Anyway, I want to share with you this truTV video. But guys, I tell you! You should watch this truTV video with caution! See for yourself to see what I mean!

When I watched the video above, where the lawyer fought the law of gravity by trying bungy jumping and when he takes a plunge, oh something bad happened! Unfortunately the rope was broken and he fell on the ground! Ouch! That was really really bad! Guess what my reaction was? I bet you guessed it right! Yeah! I shouted again! This time I said "Ouch!" My husband was surprised and ran hurriedly to me and thought that I was hurt or something. L.O.L! I can't help but have such reactions when watching truTV shows! So why should you watch truTV with caution? Because when the stories are real, the effect is actual!

TIPS FOR A HEALTHY AND HAPPY RELATIONSHIP

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I received a list of 100 Tips For A Happy Relationship in my email. Instead of sharing with you all of the tips listed there, I have picked 10 of them and will give my insights for each here. Do you feel bored in your relationship? Does the spark fade as the time goes by? Or maybe you want to maintain a happy relationship? Maybe these tips can help you.

1.Start over / Reminisce on the old times- Remember your courting stage, the spark you bring to each other, sweet things you do and fun things done together before? Do them again!
2.Feeling bored? Break the usual habit!- Do you feel bored with your relationship having the same routine, schedule or habit? Do recreational activities or any things which is something new and exciting or surprise your partner and enjoy the moment.

3. Just Because - Give your partner something she/he likes or enjoys just because you love him/her. This does not necessarily mean something expensive. Just find something that will make him/her smile or that he/she will enjoy.

4. Light up your life - You must maintain a happy relationship and not always feel grief and stress. Make sure you throw jokes to your partner once in a while and they can do the same too.

5. Touch - It keeps the love intimate. Give your partner a kiss, rub their hand, play with their hair, give them a kiss, back rubs etc.

6. Set time for each other - Make sure the two of you have time to bond together whether it be watching movies, shopping, hiking and more. It can strengthen your relationship.
7. Forgive each other - No one is perfect. All of us commit mistakes and everyone deserves a second chance.

8. Give each other some space - This is highly applicable to a boyfriend and girlfriend relationship. Maybe at times you feel that your life style is cramped by being together all the time with your partner. Spend some time apart, do some recreational activities with your friends and enjoy.
9. Communicate - There are times when you have problems and you just prefer not to talk about it. It's better to talk, listen and solve your problems. Lower down your pride and don't yell at each other.
10.Understand each others differences - All of us are not born alike. We may have something in common but we also have some differences, so learn to understand each other's differences.
Just like my husband and I, although we are the same age and we have something in common , we do have differences. One of which is me being childish. Yes! I enjoy some stuff that children do. Nope! I am not retarded! L.O.L! I just like being me and my husband accepts me for who I am and I thank him for being patient with me. My younger sister also tells me that I'm kinda childish, I guess she thinks more maturely than me.

This picture above was taken last weekend after we had our one hour hiking in one of the trails at Giant City Park. After hiking, I enjoyed a few moments on the swing and in the playground for kids. This is so me.

BANANA SPLIT RECIPE/ HOW TO MAKE A BANANA SPLIT?

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

As I mentioned in a previous post, I will share with you the recipe of the banana split that I made. This is a good dessert especially this summer! It's not bad if once in a while we indulge ourselves with something we want but we must also keep track of our food intake of course.
Ingredients:
1 scoop vanilla ice cream
1 scoop chocolate ice cream

1 scoop strawberry ice cream
1 long ripe banana

chocolate syrup
strawberry syrup

caramel syrup
some crushed nuts
whipped cream

maraschino cherries

Directions: Cut or split the banana lengthwise and lay it on a deep dish (long deep dish or a banana boat) with the inside of the banana facing up. Scoop one vanilla icecream and put it inside the banana. Next scoop chocolate icecream and place beside the vanilla icecream then strawberry icecream on the other end. Top the chocolate ice-cream with chocolate syrup, the vanilla ice-cream caramel syrup(I'm not a fan of caramel so I just put chocolate syrup) and the strawberry ice-cream with strawberry syrup. Spray the whipped cream on top of each icecream flavor. Then sprinkle with crushed nuts if desired. Finally add the maraschino cherries. Enjoy!

I felt such pity for the baby boy who was said to be physically abused by his own mother by cutting off his genital. It's really saddening that this helpless baby will be scarred physically and emotionally for the rest of his life, and I'm sad for him being unaware of his predicament. The said mother was Katherine Nadal, 28 years old and a Texas resident. She was sentenced to 99 years in prison and a $10.000 fine after found guilty. She still denied that she hurt her son as the 99 years sentenced was read in the courtroom (Aug 10, 2009) but she is eligible for parole after 30 years. Nadal claimed the 6 to 7 pound family dog was the one who mutilated her son but the prosecutors said she was high on drugs when she did it with a sharp instrument. It was said that the doctors who examined the baby, that the genitals were cut in a perfect square by a sharp instrument. An animal control officer who examined the dog found no blood in its mouth even on his fur and paws. The baby boy survived after the attack on March 2007 when he was still 5 weeks old (now he is 2 years old) where he lost too much blood in his body and his severed body part was never found.

Kathie Nadal was arrested previously for drug abuse. The mother of Kathie said that her daughter was traumatized by the death of her friend and later she turned to drugs.

My prayers for the the baby boy and his future.

LAUNDRY BAGS AND OTHER CHRISTMAS GIFT IDEAS FOR KIDS

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Christmas is just a few months away! Do you have any ideas what to buy for your godchildren? Maybe I can help you with that! Actually, I am also thinking of what gifts to buy for my niece and nephew. I have found a Stephen Joseph Quilted Toddler backpacks which can be purchased online. They are made from 100 % cotton, durable and machine washable. These are two of the many available designs they have:

Aren't they cute? I love their designs and they are perfect for my little niece and nephew. I am also thinking of giving them personalized kids backpacks where their names can be embroidered on the bags. It is bigger in size than the quilted backpack and can be used while camping or on schooldays. Aside from that I am also thinking of giving them a laundry bag each to separate their soiled clothes. How about you, are looking for useful and cute stuff for kids? I suggest that you visit Posy Lane online, where you can find adorable gift ideas for kids.

WHAT FOOD CAN'T YOU RESIST SOMETIMES?

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Sometimes we can't resist if our taste buds are looking for something right? For me, it's not bad if once in a while we will indulge ourselves with something we want but we must also keep track of our food intake. Of course too much of something is bad enough. I'm glad mostly during weekends my husband and I do some recreational activities like hiking which involves a bodily exercise. In that way we can loose some weight while enjoying our nature trip.

Last week since my husband bought ice cream and I had all the ingredients in the kitchen to make a banana split, I tried to make one. By the way, bananas have great health benefits for us (click here) and on the other hand ice cream is a good source of calcium, but of course we should take it in considerable amount ^_^ So here's my banana split.
I just put 3 scoops of ice cream topped with whipping cream(uses non fat milk) and cherries.. Good for sharing! I will share with you the recipe soon.

DISTRICT 9 MOVIE REVIEW

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

Last weekend my husband and I saw "District 9", a new movie produced by Peter Jackson (the man behind the Lord of the Rings trilogy). Set in South Africa in the near future, District 9 revolves around a mysterious species of aliens that arrive at Earth malnourished and without fuel. 20 years after being moved from their spaceship to a camp in Johannesburg, the unruly aliens, called "Prawns", are being evicted and sent to a new camp farther from the city. The main character is an employee of the multi-national organization responsible for handling the eviction. While beginning the eviction process, this character is exposed to a chemical that slowly turns him into a Prawn (and enabling him to use alien weapons that no other humans are capable of using). With his employers trying to capture him to take advantage of his new abilities, he must turn to the Prawns for help but ends up helping them instead. Of course there's alot more to it, but I don't want to give away too many details in case any of you are planning to watch it!

We really enjoyed the movie alot! The special effects were very good without being overdone, as is often the case with modern movies. In fact, the slums in the movie where the Prawns live are real and used to be inhabited by people. Also, the acting was very good and the stars were real South Africans (so you're not just watching the movie for some famous hollywood actor). There is a lot of graphic violence and it is rated R, so you may not want to bring you kids. If you want to see a very unique and entertaining movie with an original story and great special effects and acting, you can't miss District 9!

LUMPIANG GULAY / LUMPIANG TOGUE/VEGETABLE EGGROLL RECIPE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

I have egg roll wrappers left over from when I cooked lumpiang shanghai so I decided to cook vegetable lumpia(lumpiang gulay/lumpiang togue/lumpiang prito).

Ingredients:
1 lb. ground pork or beef
1 cup bean sprouts
1 cup cabbage,shredded
1 cup carrots, julienned
1 cup celery, thinly sliced
1 small onion, diced
3 small garlic cloves, crushed
3 tbsp. oil
salt to taste
pepper to taste
soy sauce to taste
egg roll wrappers (30 pcs)
oil for deep frying
Directions:
In a wok, saute garlic and onions with oil. Add ground pork or beef. Season with soy sauce, salt and pepper. Add carrots, stir fry for a few minutes or until cooked. Then add the celery, stir fry for a minute. Lastly add the cabbage and bean sprouts. Stir after each addition. Taste and add more seasoning if desired. When vegetables are crisp and tender, turn off the heat. Drain them in a strainer. Put a heaping tablespoon of meat and vegetable mixture in an egg roll wrapper.

Heat a wok and put enough oil to deep fry lumpias. When hot enough, fry the lumpia one at time but not too crowded. Remove the lumpia from the wok when golden brown. Finally, drain them on paper towels to remove excess oil.

PERFUME STORE

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

A couple of years ago I received a birthday gift from my relative working abroad. Geez! I'm so happy when I received it! It's Prada for women perfume. I love the smell of it and now I miss its oriental fragrance. It has a very modern variant of the classic fragrance, surrounded by four main essential oils. Actually everytime I wore that perfume before, my friends asked me what perfume I am wearing. They love the scent too. I am planning to buy some so I searched in a perfume store online. Luckily, I found it! How about you? What's your favorite fragrance. I suggest that you visit the online perfume store too and check your favorite perfume.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEMCY!(BEAUTIFUL PERSON INSIDE AND OUT)

Posted by Meryl (proud pinay)

It's Demcy's birthday today! Yipeee! Dhemz is one of my online blogger friends whom I met in an online group discussion at the end of February 2009, where she and other Filipino bloggers were talking about earning money online. I got interested in their topic and so I contacted her and got the chance to chat with her. I felt very comfortable with her instantly even for the first time, talking about nearly everything. I really enjoyed the funny conversations we had! She is the one who helped me out with blogging stuff. Yes, she is very kind and helpful.

She is the reason why I am here in blogosphere! Yeah! She is my mentor in blogland and one of my inspirations too ^_^. By the way, according to an online dictionary, mentor is a wise and trusted counselor or teacher. Yep! that is exactly what she is! ^_^

I admire her as a smart blogger, as a responsible mom to her pretty daughter, as a loving and sweet wife to her husband and as a caring and helpful friend. I am so lucky that she considers me as one of her friends ^_^. HAPPY BIRTHDAY sistah Dhemz! You are a beautiful person inside and out! Love you!mwahugs! ^_^
